Anonymous asked: Hello brother. I came across your post about discernment as it related to seeing couples at the mall, and I was just wondering if you believe in love at first sight. God bless.
Infatuation at first sight? Yeah, sure. But true love? I don’t think so.
I believe that your love for a person can only be as strong as your knowledge of them on a personal level.
And honestly, wouldn’t love suck if all it depended on was your first impressions of a person? Wouldn’t love suck if you couldn’t appreciate a person for all the things he or she is worth?
Because that’s essentially the kind of “love” I see being described when someone says it was “love at first sight.”
I mean, sure, maybe the stranger you shared a glance with on the street could very well become your spouse - but I really do believe that true love needs time to develop. Sometimes more time than we’d like.
But keep in mind:
“Love is patient” (1 Corinthians 13:4).
